The “system” is broken!
If the system works for the ‘easy, compliant’ kids but fails the dysregulated ones-it's not a system, it's a filter.
I don’t homeschool by choice. Yes, I’ve created a superior learning experience for my child… but I did that after he was filtered out by a system.
It has come at the expense of my financial security, my time, my attention, my energy and my focus.. and while I will make it work, systemically this is a bigger issue than ‘individual choice.’
Parents often make decisions that simply don’t NEED to be on the table for other families.
So if your children weren’t caught in the systemic filter, please do understand that many parents’ decision-making process to homeschool simply was NOT the same decision making process that led you to mainstream your child.
They had a different set of options, with complex and far-reaching consequences.
So dont question a parents’ decisions to homeschool by asking them if they considered X, Y and Z factors before pulling them out of school… (even though the child often isn’t even attending their school by this stage!) as it really does show how under-informed your knowledge of their child’s circumstances is.
